Kaitlyn was born close to the start of advent. As the Christmas season dawned, we felt compelled to do something in her name, so we set up a Just Giving page. It started as an alternative to Christmas cards; we explained that instead of Christmas cards we would be donating to SANDS, the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death charity. We chose SANDS because they have been an invaluable source of information and support these last few months; the work they have done to influence policy and strategy meant that we could make memories with Kaitlyn, memories that we will cherish forever.
The fund grew beyond where I had anticipated, and was added to when we asked for donations to SANDS instead of flowers at Kaitlyn’s funeral. In addition to this fund, the wonderful people of Bloomberg (where my sister-in-law works) donated over £2,000 to Tommy’s to contribute to research into the causes of stillbirth and other pregnancy complications.
